BROMLEY HALL TEXTILES

Makers at The Mill 2017 House Mill Gallery

Bromley-by-Bow, London

Ellie produced site specific prints and a hanging for the Mill House Gallery. The channels of the river around Three Mills echo the characteristic ribbon-like designs of Bromley Hall Textiles and recall the significant calico printing industry which developed along the River Lea in the 18th century.

Suggested beneath the seemingly decorative elements of the designs is the rich but problematic history of place, trade and gender. Pink safflower paper and Indian fabric add to the narrative of this piece.
